Galway girl Máire Hughes has been stripped of her Miss Ireland Title.

The news has emerged this afternoon that the title has been taken away due to the age requirements of the competition.

NUIG Science graduate Máire was born in Canada and grew up in Knocknacarra.

The city Born Clothing Store sales assistant was crowned Miss Ireland at a special ceremony in Dublin on Saturday night.
