Galway gets ready for the Big Sleep!
Galwegians will be taking to their sleeping bags all over the county this Friday night to raise money for the homeless – but this year they will be doing this without even having to leave home.
Galway Simon Community’s Sleep Out for Simon annual event has been re-imagined – given the restrictions imposed by Covid – so it is taking place virtually across Galway and beyond.
The event is the charity’s biggest annual fundraiser having previously taken place across towns and villages in the West for the past four years, with over 150 people signed up for this Friday.
Those funds are needed now more than ever – and that’s why both Galway Bay FM and Galway GAA are giving it their full support. Galway Bay FM, as media partner for their Virtual Sleep Out, has been supporting the event with weekly promotion and live interviews across several shows each week to help drive registrations.
And this Friday, the station will dedicate their on-air shows from 6pm-12am to the Sleep-Out to help raise vital funds for Galway Simon Community.
Donal Mahon of The Big Drive Home show will kick off the Sleep Out show from 6pm, with Jon Richards taking over later in the evening.
Throughout the night, the presenters will speak to different participants of the Sleep-Out who will be sharing their experiences of the Virtual Sleep-Out as well as staff from Galway Simon Community in a bid to raise funds for those facing homelessness here in Galway.
