Galway gets 400 thousand to make council houses more energy efficient
Galway Bay fm newsroon – Galway’s local authorities have been allocated just under 400 thousand euro in Energy Efficiency Funding to upgrade the council housing stock in the city and county
The alocation to the city council is just under 192 thousand euro while the county council is to get just over 200 thousand euro
It’s the first tranche of funding to be released under the three-year €50m energy efficiency programme for local authority homes, the parameters of which were announced by Minister O’Sullivan last month
Galway West Labour deputy Derek Nolan told Galway Bay fm news the money will be invested this year
He says it means lower energy bills for families who live in local authority houses with very poor insulation and it also means reduced carbon emissions and improved housing stock
It’s expected that the energy efficiency programme will create up to 1,000 jobs in the private sector and among community-based organisations over three years
