Galway Gardai go undercover to investigate city brothels
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway Gardai are investigating reports of brothels operating in the city.
The matter was raised at a meeting of the Joint Policing Committee by Councillor Padraig Conneely.
He said he has been alerted to two brothels allegedly operating in the city, one he described as ‘being in the shadow of a church’ and the other in a ‘leafy suburb’.
He said he viewed the premises from a distance and saw ‘some activity.’
Chief Superintendent of the Galway Garda Division, Tom Curley said there is an ongoing investigation into the reports and that there are issues in every city regarding the illegal sex trade.
He said their investigation involves Gardaí carrying out undercover and surveillance work and that they also depend on information from the public.
Certain times of the year are busier for soliciting he added, including during the Galway Races Festival and the Arts Festival.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm News, Councillor Padraig Conneely says he’s concerned about illegal trafficking.
