GALWAY FOURTH BIGGEST CONTRIBUTOR OF PAYE

Galway is ranked fourth in the list of PAYE contributing counties

That’s according to figures from the Department of Finance, supplied to Fine Gael’s Enterprise, Trade and Employment spokesman, Leo Varadkar.

4.7 percent of the total amount of PAYE collected in Ireland in 2006 was from Galway, placing it fourth after Dublin, Cork and Westmeath.

Deputy Varadkar, who represents Dublin West, says decentralisation and the National Spatial Strategy are having no effect on regional development.

He says the figures show a huge disparity between the amount of tax collected in Dublin and the rest of the State.
