GALWAY FLOOD INSURANCE TOP PRIORITY FOR OPW

Talks between the Office of Public Works and the Irish Insurance Federation about home flood cover are "progressing well."

That’s according to a letter written by Minister of State with responsibility for the OPW Martin Mansergh to Galway County Council.

In the letter, which was read out at this week’s meeting of the Council, he says the issue is a "high priority" for the OPW.

County Councillors are angry that homeowners across the county are finding it "impossible" to get cover in the wake of last year’s floods.

They’re also frustrated with they say is an" unnecessary delay" in putting flood prevention works in place.

The OPW has been invited to come into the Council’s Chamber to explain the delay.
