Galway Fine Gael TD prepared to lose party whip over abortion stance

Galway West, Fine Gael T.D, Brian Walsh, says he is prepared to lose the party whip over his stance on the proposed abortion legislation.

He has already confirmed he will not vote for the bill saying he feels surgical intervention is an inappropriate response to suicidal ideation.

Former Taoiseach John Bruton has also intervened in the row over abortion legislation, arguing that suicide should not be a ground for abortion.

In today’s Irish Independent, John Bruton says he knows of no other area of law, where a threat of suicide is grounds to make legal something that would otherwise be illegal.
