Galway FC battled to a scoreless draw away to Waterford United in the RSC on Friday night to secure their first point of their debut season in the League of Ireland First Division.

The best of the chances fell to the home side, but Conor Gleeson was in fine form in the Galway FC goal, pulling off a number of top-drawer saves.

Having got their first point, Tommy Dunne’s side will hope to follow it up this Friday night with a first win when Shamrock Rovers B travel West to Eamonn Deacy Park.

Earlier on Friday, St Joseph’s College (the Bish) booked their place in the FAI All-Ireland Junior (U-17) final thanks to a 1-0 win over De La Salle of Waterford, with Josh Marvesley getting the only goal.

The striker, a son of former Galway United star Gerry Mullan, rose highest to head home what proved to be the winner six minutes into the second half. They will meet the winners of today’s other semi-final, between St Eunan’s College of Letterkenny and Marian College of Ballsbridge in Dublin, in the final on Wednesday week at a venue yet to be announced.

While they are bidding for U-17 glory, another city school are in the hunt for a senior title as Dominican College Taylor’s Hill travel to Sligo tomorrow to take on defending champions Moville of Donegal in the FAI Senior Girls’ Final (1pm).

They became the first city school to capture the provincial title last month, and followed that up with a win over Christ King Girls’ College Cork in the All-Ireland semi-final two weeks ago.
