Galway farmers are to shut down operations next month as part of a national day of action announced by the IFA.

The farm shutdown will take place on Tuesday, October 9th and is intended to send a message to Government on defending the incomes of family farming.

The IFA says it wants to highlight the need to defend the full CAP budget in Europe and retain national funding for income related farm schemes.

In addition, a protest in Dublin will highlight the escalating cost and price squeeze on farm incomes.

Michael Flynn, who’s Chairman of the Galway IFA, says the day of action is aimed at making the Government stand up and take notice.
