Galway farmers protest at Department of Arts Heritage and Gaeltacht
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A group of farmers from the Twelve Pins region of Connemara, along with farmers from Mayo and Sligo protested at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht today. (17/6)
They want the Minister, Jimmy Deenihan, to meet with the Irish Farmers Association to agree on a framework for commange areas and compensation for destocking.
Up to 300 farmers in Connemara have been affected by destocking and the IFA says the inaction of the Departments of Agriculture and Heritage is closing down family farms.
Chairman of the Regional IFA in Connemara, Brendan Joyce says the previous compensation schemes need to continue.
