Cashflow for animal feed stock is now a significant problem for Galway farmers due to challenges presented by recent poor weather conditions.

Teagasc nutritionist, Dr. Siobhan Kavanagh says the sector had a difficult silage making season last year and stocks are now depleted with some farmers down to a week’s supply or less.

The group is encouraging farmers to get out fertislisr as soon as possible as weather and ground conditions have not allowed the process to date.

Dr. Kavanagh says if farmers are experiencing a shortage in silage, they should try to strecth it out over the next 10 days or fortnight.

She told Galway Talks, that help should be sought by the growing number of local farmers who now face cashflow problems due to poor fodder yield and stocks.
