Galway events for Engineers Week

Engineers Week, the annual campaign to inspire the next generation of engineers and excite students about the possibilities a career in engineering can offer, takes place across the county from Saturday.

The annual event is coordinated on a national basis by Engineers Ireland’s STEPS programme – funded as a strategic partner of Science Foundation Ireland’s (SFI) Smart Futures Programme.

And from Saturday, engineers from all over Ireland will engage with their communities to showcase their profession to primary and secondary students in their locality, highlighting the amazing ways Irish engineers are pushing the limits of ingenuity, creativity and innovation.

In Galway, Engineers Week participation from engineering organisations, third-level institutions and among outreach organisations is incredibly strong with over 25 events occurring around the county.

NUIG, GMIT, Galway Atlantiquaria, Boston Scientific, Cisco, Medtronic, Brigit’s Garden, Waterways Ireland, Wood Group Kenny, Valeo, Surmordics Ireland, Blackrock Castle Observatory, Crospon, ESB, Cold Chon and Irish Road Maintenance Services are al hosting events in their locality giving students the opportunity to meet engineers, take part in workshops and gain an in-depth understanding of the diverse career opportunities that are available.

Engineers Ireland’s Biomedical Engineering Division and West Region will also co-host a presentation by Niamh Hynes, Clinical Lecturer in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, who will present on Clinical and Surgical Perspectives to Medical Device Design.
