Fine Gael’s Ciaran Cannon has filled the third and final seat in Galway East constituency following the distribution of Sean Canney’s surplus and there ends count.
Cannon was elected without reaching the quota and he joins independent Canney and Fianna Fail’s Anne Rabbitte in the new Dail.
The former Junior Minister eclipsed his FG colleague Paul Connaughton who has declared that he has now lost the bite for politics.
He said, however, if he develops a thirst for politics over the next couple of years he might consider contesting the local elections in 2019.
But he has confirmed that he was not be seeking a seat in the forthcoming Seanad Elections.
Meanwhile, Ciaran Cannon said after being elected that he would not mind his party entering into negotiations with Fianna Fail and he also added that he had the full confidence in party  leader Enda Kenny.
