As expected Cllr. Timmy Broderick from Kilconnell is doing well in his home territory as the Ballinasloe boxes were opened first at the count centre in New Inn.
In fact it would be something of a surprise if Broderick didn’t do well in his own back yard while Cllr. Dermot Connolly of Sinn Fein is also polling well.
With 72 boxes opened Broderick is on 3,500 first preferences followed by Jimmy McClearn on 3,300 first preferencs with Paul Connaughton jnr doing extremely well and already pundits are calling a seat for him.
While this would not be a strong Labour area, Colm Keaveney and Lorraine Higgins have amassed 1,800 votes between them.
Within the next half hour the Tuam boxes will be opened while some of the Loughrea boxes have already been sorted.
