Election 2020
Galway East 2nd Count: Ward eliminated
Following his elimination in the 2nd Count, the distribution of Martin Ward’s (Aontu) 670 votes is currently taking place at the Galway East count centre in Presentation College, Headford and it will be interesting to see if Sinn Fein’s Louis O’Hara can benefit.
And the Athenry-based student will also be keeping a close watch on the destination of the transfers from the two Green Party candidates in the race Eoin Madden (1,942 votes) and Peter Reid (867 votes) to keep him in the race.
Some at the count centre are suggesting that O’Hara might benefit from number twos in the event of Fianna Fail’s Donagh Killilea being eliminated but there is no doubt that he is certainly in with a shout of a seat.
Independent TD Sean Canney looks assured of being returned and the possible elimination of Killilea should see Fianna Fail’s Anne Rabbitte safely home while there are just 267 votes between sitting TD Ciaran Cannon and party colleague Cllr Pete Roche.
