Galway Bay fm newsroom – The average consumer in Galway pays over 733 euro in alcohol tax every year.
According to a new study by Support your Local, Galway’s total tax per person per year is over 400 euro more than the German equivalent.
Between December 2012 and October 2013, excise on wine increased by 62%, on beer by 44% and on spirits by 37%.
The study argues that alcohol consumption levels have remained relatively stable despite tax hikes, indicating that price does little to change drinking habits.
