GALWAY DOG OWNERS WARNED REGARDING SHEEP ATTACKS

Dog owners in Galway are being warned to take measures to prevent dog attacks on sheep.
According to an IFA hotline, fifteen sheep were reported killed or injured in Galway since the last lambing season as a result of dog attacks.
The IFA and the Department of the Environment have joined forces for a campaign targeted at dog owners ahead of this year’s lambing season.
They’re being urged to be in control of their pets at all times, especially with the vulnerability of sheep flocks at this time of year.
Up to 2.5 million lambs will be born in Ireland over the next 3 months.
Since last year’s lambing season, an IFA hotline has received a significant number of calls from farmers reporting dog attacks on their sheep.
The highest number of attacks happened in County Laois, with 155 sheep killed or injured.
Fifteen sheep in Galway were reported killed or injured in dog attacks to the IFA hotline.
