Galway cruise through poor GMIT challenge

GALWAY will face Roscommon in the Connacht FBD League final this coming weekend after recording a comprehensive win over the students of GMIT in a lobsided affair at Loughgeorge last Friday night.

Liam Sammon’s charges were always in control and went in at the break with a 2-4 to 0-3 advantage – a lead that gave the reigning FBD champions the perfect springboard to record their third victory on the trot in this competition.

The turning point came midway through the first half when city youngster Eoin Concannon bagged two goals in as many minutes for the Tribesmen which sucked the confidence out of GMIT.

The corner-forward’s first goal came on 19 minutes when his rasping shot beat ‘keeper Robbie Hannon and on 21 minutes, Michael Meehan found Concannon in space and the St. James’ clubman raised another green flag with a finely struck shot.

Galway youngsters Michael Martin and Paul Conroy gave the students a glimmer of hope with a brace of points immediately after the restart but the revival was short-lived and the inter-county side responded in style by scoring 11 unanswered points.
