GALWAY COURT ADJOURNED DUE TO FRACAS IN THE PORCH

Galway District Court had to be adjourned briefly today and a man taken to hospital after he was punched in the face in a porch way leading to the courtroom just before lunchtime.

The 28 years old man got involved in an altercation with two others, thought to be his cousins, as all three were awaiting the hearing of an assault case.

Inspector Pat McHugh informed the court a short time later that three arrests in all had been made following the disturbance and one man had to be taken to hospital.

He asked that the assault case, which was due to be contested later in the afternoon, be adjourned to February 11.

Judge Fahy remanded the accused man, who was taken to hospital on continuing bail, to appear before the court again on February 11.
