Date Published: 20-Jul-2012
The Mayor of Galway has hit out at proposed cuts to the local authority government fund for the third and fourth quarters of this year.
Mayor Thomas Welby says Galway County Council could be facing a cut of up to 3 million euro to its local government fund of 28 million.
Galway City Council is facing a cut of almost 500 thousand euro to its allocation of 5 point 99 million.
The local Government fund is financed by Motor Tax, the Household Charge and NPPR.
The concerns follow a circular from Environment Minister Phil Hogan to the local authority and others yesterday [Jul 19] on the last day the Dail sat prior to summer recess.
Speaking on Galway Talks, Mayor Welby says he’s calling on the Minister to seriously re-think the cuts
