Galway Bay fm newsroom – Despite ongoing trials of 4G mobile services in Galway, Cork and Dublin, it’s unlikely O2 will launch its service before 2014.

However, Vodafone and Meteor are expected to launch their 4G high-speed services in the next couple of months.

Meteor is currently conducting final trials in Galway, Dublin, Athlone and Carlow.

Vodafone will launch in Kilkenny with Dublin and other cities to follow.

Chief Executive of O2, Fergal McCann told the Irish Independent that due to the recent acquisition with Hutchinson [3 Ireland], they can’t specify a launch date for their 4G.

O2 is still undertaking 4G trials in Galway.

4G services, which require a special mobile sim card, can deliver internet download speeds which are 4 or five times faster than current 3G speeds.
