GALWAY CONSULTANT WANTS NIGERIAN WOMANS DEPORTATION OVERTURNED
Date Published: 03-Aug-2010
A Galway consultant has described the deportation of a seriously ill 30-year-old Nigerian woman in May as a "death sentence."
Professor Michael O’Dwyer – who is a consultant haematologist at University Hospital Galway – treated the woman for a form of leukaemia.
Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern signed a deportation order for her and her two-year-old daughter in May.
According to today’s Irish Times, treatment is available only on a limited basis in Ireland and Professor O’Dwyer says the woman won’t be able to access it in her homeland.
