Companies in Galway can boost their finance teams by participating in the Accounting Technician Apprenticeship, an ‘earn-as-you-learn’, work-based study programme – with tuition costs fully covered by the State.

This is a modern, practical route to a career in accountancy where employers nurture talented participants with the potential to become professional Accounting Technicians with wide-ranging skills.

Employers pay the Accounting Technician-in-Training at least €19,400 – which is the minimum wage – per year for the duration of the two-year programme.

The programme is running in partnership with Galway Roscommon ETB and the Galway Technical Institute and will start in January 2019.

An employer information session will be held in Galway Technical Institute on Thursday week, October 25, at 1pm.

The apprenticeship helps address a skills shortage in finance and accounting and attracts high-calibre applicants who are set on a career in accountancy.

ATI sources and screen applicants and then refers them to employers for interview. Existing employees who are seeking a move into finance are also eligible to apply.

Participants are motivated individuals who are determined to succeed as Accounting Technicians.

Accounting Technicians are trained in bookkeeping and accounting systems, preparing accounts and financial statements, tax administration and management and payroll, among many other skills.

Accounting Technician graduates work in practice, construction, financial services, IT, manufacturing, professional services, NGOs and many other sectors which are experiencing rapid growth as the economic recovery continues.
