GALWAY CLASS SIZES BELOW NATIONAL AVERAGE

Primary school class sizes in Galway city and county are below the national average.
Figures compiled by the Irish Independent for the 2011/2012 period reveal the average class size in the county is 22 point 9 while in the city it’s 24 point 09.
There are over 112 thousand pupils in classes of at least 30 at schools around the country – that’s up from 97 thousand on the previous year.
County Limerick is the worst affected with overcrowded classrooms with 31 percent in classes of 30 or more, followed by Wicklow, Dun Laoighaire/Rathdown and Cork.
