Galway city rape trial begins
Galway bay fm newsroom – The trial of a 40-year-old man charged with raping a schoolgirl in the city two years ago is underway at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Galway.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has pleaded not guilty to raping the child at a house in the city on April 17, 2011.
A jury of ten men and two women was empanelled to hear evidence in the trial during which it is anticipated the alleged victim, who is a minor, will give evidence by video link.
The trial could not proceed yesterday when only 15 people showed up for jury service.
