Galway City named as one of Ireland’s Best Kept Towns

Galway bay fm newsroom – Galway City named as one of Ireland’s Best Kept Towns at an award ceremony hosted by Minister Phil Hogan in Farmleigh House

As part of the competition, the highest scoring towns in the national Tidy Towns Competition compete with the winners of Northern Ireland’s Best Kept Towns for the title of Ireland’s Best Kept Town.

Galway city was one of just 13 towns shortlisted out of over 700 towns adjudicated.

Speaking at the event, Niall McNelis, chairperson of Galway City’s Tidy Towns Committee said that Galway’s inclusion in this year’s shortlist is great recognition for council staff and volunteers

Galway city was one of the final three towns named in the Large Urban Centre category and finished as runner up to Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, which recently hosted the G8 summit.

City Manager, Brendan McGrath congratulated all those involved especially the volunteers, businesses, schools and community groups.
