HOUSEHOLDERS in Galway City are being urged to help conserve water supplies after a major leak in the East side of the city depleated water levels in reservoirs until it was repaired last evening (Monday).

Crews from the City council repaired the leak last evening but at that stage it had contributed to reservoir stocks being depleated to critical levels.

This has resulted inlow water pressure in many areas of the East side of Galway city and in parts of the city centre.

The crews are working on repairing major leaks in Knocknacarra and other areas of the city this lunchtime.

A spokesperson for Galway City Council says that they are asking the public to conserve water supplies in order for reservoir levels to recover as quickly as possible.

City council repairs crews are working again today to try and repair other burst pipes across Galway.

They say that while the heavy rain last evening will help thaw the ground it will not have any major immediate impact on restoring water levels at the city’s reservoirs.
