From this week’s Galway City Tribune – Two mobile stages are at the top of Galway City Council’s shopping list as part of new Government grants being provided for making more use of outdoor spaces.

A report on tourism infrastructure plans for the city – presented at Monday’s City Council meeting – outlined the ‘shopping priorities’ for the local authority.

Mobile stages, stretch tents, festival flooring – as well as the improvement of power and water services – will all be part of the City Council’s application.

In the report, prepared by Director of Services Brian Barrett and Tourism Officer Ruairí Lehmann, it said the Council had identified the need for two mobile stages.

“The smaller stage will be ideal for local events within the community in local neighbourhoods and intimate performances in the core city centre streets.

“The larger stage will be used for festivals and events and can be used in large public areas such as public parks and car-parks,” the report stated.

It also pointed out that the portable stages would facilitate local arts and community groups to host theatre performances, cinema screenings and concerts across the city.
