Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway has been chosen as one of three counties to take part in a major initiative for artists with disabilities.

The Ignite initiative will have centres in Galway, Mayo and Cork, and each will be awarded with a commission of up to €60,000.

The aims of the project is to support national and international collaborations between artists with disabilities and the presentation of commissioned work at local venues and festivals.

The partnership between the Arts Council, Arts and Disablity Ireland and the chosen County Councils will award commissions by the end of the year.

Arts officer at Galway City Council, James Harrold says it’s a very exciting project.
