Galway childrenÕs theatre group is bound for international stage

Galway based Branar Téatar, one of Ireland’s foremost children’s theatre companies, has been invited to perform three of its productions at international children’s arts festivals in 2012 and 2013. All shows will be performed in Irish.

On St Patrick’s Day Branar will bring its productions, Mise Scéal Cailín and An Seanfhear Beag to Agor Drysau – Opening Doors Festival in Abeystwyth in Wales. This is Branar’s first invitation to this high profile international children’s theatre festival. The company will also perform in four other venues around Wales, staging eight performances over six days.

Mise Scéal Cailín (2011) and An Seanfhear Beag (2009) have toured extensively throughout the West and Ireland and played to almost 16,000 children. Both productions have been performed at the Baboró International Arts Festival for Children, where the shows were seen by a delegation of international festival directors, invited to Galway by Culture Ireland.

Next up, Branar is off to Cologne in June where its production of Clann Lir has been invited to perform as part of the city’s Literary Week. The theme of the week is The Literature of Ireland and Branar’s show will take place at Comedia Kindertheater.

The company has also been invited to tour Clann Lir and Mise Scéal Cailín to four children’s arts festivals in Canada in June of next year.

Branar strives to create simple, elegant theatre for young people and its reputation for doing that has grown locally and nationally since 2001 Now the group has an opportunity to present its work to an international audience.

“We are incredibly delighted to be touring internationally,” says Marc Mac Lochlainn, adding that this year Mise Scéal Cailín has also been invited to take part in the Take Off Festival for young people in Durham, England.”
