Galway Carers provide over quarter of a million hours unpaid care each week
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Carers in Galway give more than quarter of a million hours unpaid care to the county’s sick, elderly and vunerable each week.
That’s according to the Irish Red Cross, which says that of over 10 thousand carers in Galway, almost half work between 15 and 43 hours a week, while a further 43% work up to 14 hours a week.
The charity is calling for nominations for the 2014 Carer of the Year Awards to highlight the work of carers in Galway.
The competition will select four regional winners before announcing the national winner in October.
Danny Curran of the IRC says the competition is open to any member of the public currently providing voluntary care.
