GALWAY CARERS CALL FOR GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

Galway carers say the incoming Government needs to provide more services and financial aid to support their work.

A public information campaign designed to inform carers about Census 2011 was launched in the city this morning.

The purpose of the campaign is to ensure that all family carers in Galway, answer question 22 in the Census which refers to "unpaid help".

The last census in 2006, estimated there were just over 9 thousand family carers in Galway but the Carers Association believes this number is much higher.
