Galway cancer sufferers participate in groundbreaking clinical trial
Galway Bay fm newsroom – There’s fresh hope for hundreds of Irish patients suffering with advanced skin cancer.
24 cancer sufferers in Galway, Dublin and Cork are taking part in a clinical trial which researchers claim has shown an almost five-fold increase in survival rates.
Scientists have found that the combination of two drugs – ipilimumab and nivolumab extended the survival rates of over 90 per cent of patients by up to two years.
Melanoma is one of the most aggressive forms of cancer, with 75 per cent of people dying within just one year of diagnosis.
