GALWAY BURGLARIES DECREASE BY 17 PERCENT

The rate of burglaries in County Galway has dropped by 17 percent.

That’s according to recent figures compiled by the Central Statistics Office which show that 939 such offences were recorded last year compared to 1039 in 2010.

The 2011 figures are the lowest for the county division in the last four year period.

2009 saw the greatest number of burglaries with 1185 such incidents recorded in Galway.

This is followed by 1099 burglaries in 2010 and 1041 in 2008.

Last year the figure peaked in the final quarter when 256 incidents took place around the county.
