Budget Travel has gone bust with the loss of 172 jobs including four at the Galway branch.

Ireland’s largest tour operator is to stop trading from this evening with 747 passengers left stranded at resorts abroad.

Staff at Budget Travel in the Galway Shopping Centre on the Headford Road were told this afternoon that their contracts were ended with immediate effect.

The Galway outlet is one of 17 retail shops across the country to shut its doors today.
