Galway bike scheme to be rolled out early 2014
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The new public bike scheme for Galway is expected to be up and running in early 2014.
Director of Services for Transport at City Council Ciarán Hayes told Galway Talks the tendering process for the civil works will get underway soon.
185 bikes will be available for hire at 19 stations in the city including areas such as Eyre Square, the Cathedral and the Headford road.
Public Transport Minister Alan Kelly announced details for the bike share schemes in Galway, Limerick and Cork this morning.
The schemes will be carried out by the National Transport Authority in partnership with soft drinks giant Coca-Cola and will be known as ‘coke zero bikes’.
Ciarán Hayes says he expects registration for the scheme will be about ten euro, but these details have yet to be firmed up.
