Galway based book dealer plans to sell defaced Ulysses first edition
Galway bay fm newsroom – A first-edition copy of James Joyce’s novel ‘Ulysses’, which is owned by a city-based book dealer is set to fetch more than 13 thousand euro.
Rare book dealer Norman Healy, from Threadneedle road, who acquired the book in London, says the front of the book is defaced by a previous owner.
They wrote the words ‘a pornographic bible’ on the cover beneath the title.
While defaced books are normally worthless, Norman Healy says the comment on the front of Ulysses has actually increased the value of the first-edition, which are always in high demand.
