Staff at the Galway Aviva branch are still unsure as to how the 950 job cuts announced nationwide will affect them.

Around 200 staff were briefed by management at the centre in Knocknacarra this morning.

It was held to co-incide with staff meetings at the Dublin headquarters and Cork branch.

The insurance company gave a generic statement to its 2000 strong workforce that 950 jobs would be shed from its Irish operations over the next two years.

It means Aviva is to reduce its workforce in Ireland by almost 50 per cent – along with combining Aviva Ireland and Aviva UK to form one region.

The changes will take effect from next March, but the company has stopped short of telling staff where exactly the job cuts will be made, other than saying they hope to achieve as many as possible through voluntary redundancy.

AVIVA Galway workers told Galway Bay fm news the briefing has only left them in ‘limbo’.
