Galway Arts Centre offering choice of poetry workshops
Galway Arts Centre is offering a choice of three online poetry workshops in January, all facilitated by Kevin Higgins whose debut collection, The Boy With No Face, published by Salmon Poetry, was shortlisted for the 2006 Strong Award for Best First Collection by an Irish poet.
Salmon have published six collections of Kevin’s work, including Frightening New Furniture, Song of Songs 2.0: New & Selected Poems (2017) and Sex and Death at Merlin Park Hospital (2019). His next collection, Ecstatic, is due from Salmon in March.
Kevin’s work featured in the anthology Identity Parade – New British and Irish Poets (Bloodaxe, 2010) and The Hundred Years’ War: Modern War Poems (Bloodaxe 2014). A collection of his essays and book reviews, Mentioning The War, was published by Salmon in 2012.
He has read from his work in the USA, Greece and Australia at events supported by the Arts Council and Culture Ireland. His poems have been broadcast on RTE Radio, Lyric FM, and BBC Radio 4 and have been translated into many languages.
For the Arts Centre poetry classes, Kevin will give participants a weekly poetry writing exercise to be completed for the following week. He will then offer constructive suggestions on how to improve their work.
