Galway artists centre stage in Ireland Performs initiative
Musicians Sharon Shannon, Alan Kelly, and Frankie Gavin, singer Lasarfhíona Ní Chonaola and actor and musician Aindrias de Staic are among the Galway-based performers selected to take part in Ireland Performs.
This initiative between the national organisation, Culture Ireland, and Facebook Ireland was drawn up in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It had a pot of €100,000, equally funded by Culture Ireland and Facebook, to support Irish artists perform live before a global audience.
Announced on April 3 and running until this week, it was part of the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht’s response to Covid-19. Other aspects of the Department’s scheme have been highly criticised by artists – and this one was geared towards people who had work ready to be performed rather than those who had material in progress.
