Galway alive once again to the sound of music!
For the first time in months, Galwegians got a taste of live entertainment last week as musicians, comedians and actors returned to the stage – albeit with limited crowds.
Theatre-goers got the first bite of the apple with the Druid’s production of Thomas Kilroy’s The Seagull at Coole Park in Gort, while music and comedy-lovers are still filing into Nimmo’s Pier nightly for the Róisín Dubh’s and Galway Comedy Festival’s ‘The Grand Auld Stretch’ line-up.
And with a series of gigs already on sale for Pearse Stadium, as well as the Galway, Clifden and Portumna Arts Festivals on the horizon, live performances are slowly making a comeback.
Speaking to the Connacht Tribune this week, the Róisín Dubh’s Eoghan ‘Gugai’ McNamara said the response to the Nimmo’s Pier performances has been exceptional, with Mick Flannery kicking off proceedings last Friday night and comedian Tommy Tiernan among the performers this week.
“The welcome from the crowd was just unbelievable – everyone is just delighted to be able to get back to concerts. People were actually very emotional,” he said of the 200-strong crowd.
