Galway Airport to open for walk-in Covid testing
The Covid-19 test centre at Galway Airport will be open for walk-in testing (no doctor’s referral necessary) from Tuesday until May 10.
The service is for people who are not showing any symptoms, but would like to be tested.
It will operate alongside that for people who are symptomatic or close contacts of a confirmed case of Covid-19 and who are referred for a test by their GP.
You can use this free service if you:
- are aged 16 years and over;
- do not have symptoms of Covid-19 but would like to be tested;
- have not tested positive for COVID-19 in the last six months.
You must bring a photo ID with you and provide the HSE with a mobile phone number so they can contact you with your test results.
Social distancing measures will apply as people arrive for testing. If the waiting times are too long for you, you are welcome to come back on another day or time.
The walk-in service will be available from May 4 to May 10 from 10am to 7.30pm on weekdays and 10am to 5.30pm on Saturday and Sunday May 8 and 9.
According to the HSE, these walk-in centres are an important part of their efforts to facilitate enhanced Covid-19 testing for local communities and means that those without symptoms have convenient access to testing.
They also allow further identification and understanding of any variants of concern within communities.
