GALWAY AIRPORT GRANTED FUNDS FOR THIS YEAR

The immediate future for Galway Airport has been secured.

Galway West Senator, Fidelma Healy-Eames says she has been told by Minister for Transport, Leo Varadkar, that funding will be provided to the airport in Carnmore for this year.

Minister Varadkar held meetings last month with airport management and supporters of the airport.

Without a Government subsidy, the airport would not be able to maintain services and would have to close.

Managing Director of Galway Airport, Joe Walsh, says he spoke to the Department at 1 o’ clock this afternoon and was told that no decision has been made yet.
