Galway 2020 ensures election will go off with a bang!

Last time out...the Galway West Election count.

Whatever the eventual outcome, the General Election is guaranteed to go off in Galway with a big bang – because polling day coincides with the spectacular launch event of the 2020 Capital of Culture!

And while Taoiseach Leo Varadkar may have taken into account the plight of students and parents of young children in deciding on a Saturday election, the Six Nations and the Galway 2020 will prove to be major distractions for voters here.

The pubs will be packed for the rugby, while the city will be thronged for the opening 2020 ceremony – meaning the polling booths could be confined to a second or third preference.

And as the hopefuls set out on the three-week campaign trail, it doesn’t appear that there will be any major changes in the three constituencies that affect County Galway.
