GAA President Larry McCarthy officially launched Castlegar GAA Club’s new state-of-the-art indoor building – which includes a large astro playing pitch, dressing rooms, reception area and viewing gallery.

Castlegar GAA Club Chairman and Galway hurling legend John Connolly described it as ‘a hugely exciting time for our club with the new building now finally completed’.

“A huge thanks to everybody involved including many of our local tradesmen who worked on the venue over the years and generously supported us along the way,” said John.

The new building which took eight years to complete is used on a weekly basis for juvenile hurling and camogie as well as for football and soccer. The club has also hosted birthday parties and discos at the venue.

“This is a fantastic building and everybody at Castlegar GAA Club should be hugely proud of what they have achieved here. The GAA is a wonderful organisation built on volunteerism and great support from the local community,” said GAA President Larry McCarthy.

Castlegar GAA is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in the county with over 600 members and fields a large number of teams from underage level right up to senior throughout the season.

“This building will certainly play a huge part in helping our teams prepare for competition and will also benefit so many in the years to come,” said John Connolly.
