GAA club aims to help members win recession fight

A CITY GAA club has decided to respond to the jobs crisis by organising a workshop with professionals who will advise members about business and educational opportunities, career planning, finance, and CV and interview preparation this coming Sunday.
The aim of the workshop is to try to maximise the employment and educational opportunities available for members of the Fr Griffin’s Eire Og club, to ensure that players will not be forced out of the Galway region.
The new careers and financial advice programme has been initiated by New Zealand native Will Mallard, the city club’s PRO and corner forward, to follow a model used by his home rugby club in the city of Wellington some years ago.
It was felt that such an initiative was needed after the club’s team managers sat down to set out their training programmes for 2009, only to realise that concerns over employment opportunities were a common theme throughout the club’s various teams.
