Members of a progressive Galway GAA club are making a determined bid to secure and develop their own grounds following a recent fundraising launch.

Homeless Tuam Cortoon Ladies Football Club, which was established 16 years ago, are currently on the lookout for a suitable location.

And they are hoping that over the next three months, they will be in a financial position to realise their ambition of having their own home.

Club Secretary and former councillor Shaun Cunniffe said that there was now a real hunger within the club to have their own pitch and clubhouse.

The club, which was established in 2005, has over 300 members and were crowned Galway intermediate champions last month. They also have a hugely successful under-age structure.

They have now launched a fundraising draw with an Audi car as first prize with two other major prizes also up for grabs as they strive to provide a new home of their own. The draw will take place around the middle of March.

Members will be selling tickets at €25 each and they can also be acquired on the club’s Facebook page.

Up to now, the club has been using the facilities provided by other clubs for training and matches – and members were quick to appreciate the support provided by Tuam Stars, Cortoon Shamrocks, Tuam Rugby Club, Trinity National School, Gardenfield National School and St Jarlath’s College.
