FUTURE OF GALWAY HARBOUR TO BE CONSIDERED BY MINISTER
Date Published: 25-Apr-2011
Galway harbour will be examined by the Transport Minister as he plans a major overhaul of the way ports in Ireland operate.
Leo Varadkar is considering closing down some of the smaller cargo ports around the country.
The shake up would involve turning them into harbours for fishing and water sports with a view to reopening them for ships as needed.
His plan leaves a question mark over the future of ports in Galway, New Ross, Arklow, Waterford, Dundalk and Drogheda.
