Galway bay fm newsroom – The Galway/Roscommon hospital group has reduced the number of patients waiting more than 12 months for an appointment by over half.

As of the 12th of September, there were16 thousand 682 patients waiting for out-patient appointments- a reduction of over 3000 since the end of May.

Over 43,000 were on out-patient waiting lists at the beginning of 2013, and Bill Maher, CEO of the West-Northwest Hospital Group urged patients to cancel appointments if they could not attend.

The do-not-attend rate for GUH is now below 10% after a call centre was set up for patients, and Bill Maher says the group is striving to reduce this to below 7.5%.
