Further delay to inter-county season is blow to Galway
GALWAY GAA chiefs have been left scrambling in wake of the bombshell that inter-county activity is no longer exempt under the elite-sport Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions.
Apart from another delay to the top level GAA season resuming, the news also reopens the debate about whether club or inter-county action will take place first in 2021.
The GAA will bide their time on making any key decisions until the Government outlines its latest Covid-19 roadmap next week, but already County Board Treasurer Michael Burke has come out in favour of running off the inter-county calendar first as was originally planned.
But this latest hold up is certain to impact on how local hurling and football championships are planned as the time-frame for running off competitions becomes tighter.
To compound Galway’s difficulties at club hurling level, all their 2020 championships bar senior have still to be completed.
